Wesley Street Mill
A REPORT about the potential regeneration of a derelict mill site in Bamber Bridge is set to be discussed.

Members of South Ribble Borough Council’s cabinet will meet on Wednesday 13 June to consider recommendations to invite developers to submit proposals for the former Wesley Street Mill and adjacent sites.

The terms of any agreement with a developer would ensure that they, rather than South Ribble’s taxpayers, would foot the bill for the project.

The 100-year-old building is the former home of Bamber Bridge Spinning and Weaving Company. The mill has fallen into such disrepair that any development would be likely to involve its demolition.

Councillor Margaret Smith, Leader of South Ribble Borough Council, said: “I very much welcome this report to the cabinet. Wesley Street Mill and its neighbouring sites are in a poor state now. Unlocking their potential as soon as possible is one of the council’s priorities, as it would provide a huge boost for Bamber Bridge and the local economy.

“We are leading a project to encourage all parties to work together so the separate sites can be developed in a co-ordinated way. There are complicated contractual issues which will take time to resolve, but I strongly believe we can achieve a solution through open and constructive discussions.”

Such a beautiful old building, so important to local history, deserves better than to be demolished. who let it get in this state?
