RE: Car Park Charges
Several of my Boeing trips were to Melbourne in 1996/97. We stayed at a hotel that was across from the park where the tennis stadium is located. I enjoyed the visits there. There's an echo of Melbourne in Seattle. The tram tracks that run along the waterfront have a fleet of a half-dozen former Melbourne trams.

Hi Frank

Near where you stayed is Flinders Street Station, with trams stopping across the road in front and Southbank behind.
Opposite Flinders Street St entrance is a marvellous pub called the Young and Jackson. Upstairs is a marvellous Pub Restaurant with a marvellous wine room adorned with a huge oil painting of Chloe a naked woman that has been there since 1909. It is the sight that many of the ANZACs saw for the last time before going to the world wars whilst having a lot beer before going overseas to war - many never to come back.
Excellent part of the world

I'm sorry I missed that, Peter. We were very busy selling airplanes, re-writing the airline's specific system requirements into detailed specifications. Lots of very long evenings working with Microsoft Word on the lap-tops!

I had a room at the front of the hotel and could actually see the tennis stadium buildings from it. I remember there being tram tracks, local commuter train tracks and maybe a set of tracks for the log-distance express trains too.

Hi Frank

My brother is in your business, he lives in different parts of the world as the Head of a team of Aircraft designers - currently in China.

I'm not sure what part of the design process he specialises in but it pays the bills admirably.

Cheers

Peter

RE: Car Park Charges
Peter:

I got fed up of all the travel, since all my customers were in the Islamic world (Middle East and Brunei). When Boeing merged with McDonnell-Douglas, business-class travel for long overseas flights was discontinued. I told my immediate boss that there was no way I'm going to do 18-hour (or longer) trips with a change of airplanes in London or Copenhagen, riding in the back of the bus. I had over 600,000 frequent flier miles on maybe 8 different airlines at the time.

I asked for an alternate assignment to US or Canadian customers and was refused. I took early retirement just shy of my 57th birthday and haven't regretted it since (now almost 18 years).
