It looks like the base tower of the Leyland Motors' Clock going up on the opposite side of the roundabout.

Somebody told me it was going to be a clock so we will see !!

''It will also feature a bronze-coloured statue of a Leyland Motors worker heading out of the base site.''
Lancashire Evening Post I wonder if it will show this worker with his redundancy notice in his hand.

Its a clock but I aint seen a bronze figure, on saying that I have only seen it in passing whilst in the car ! I find it quite strange that they have taken the time and effort plus spent a few quid adding these new features to the roundabout area, yet just around the corner on Chapel Brow it still resembles London during the blitz after the Indian takeaway collapsed yonks ago ! This situation needs sorting out anon. I dont know who is liable for paying but whoever it is they should be made to sort it ! If a neighbour has a garden that is an eyesore like that then the council can make them sort it out so why cant they intervene in this case ? The mess and rubble is in full view of one of the new additions so whats the point really !!

I like whats going on.
For the first time since I can remember something is really happening. Hats off to the Council - the clocks back and better than ever. That new wheel makes the bottom of Chapel Brow look good. The car parks are better - just a shame it didn't happen sooner.

Other than the desire to preserve the centre of the roundabout for the Christmas tree (let's face it, for a couple of weeks a year) I can't understand why the clock has been moved. You couldn't have had a more prominent position than the roundabout, with all the traffic coming off the M Way seeing it. Where it is now, it just seems like they couldn't think of anywhere better to put it and it's just been shoved away in a corner. It should have been left where it was, and the Christmas tree could have been put on the corner of the car park. Also, when I read about the 'wheel', I expected something a little, well, larger. I reserve judgement until all the 'regeneration' work has been completed, but frankly, the early signs are not encouraging.

Good grief. If it cost £100k to move the clock across the road and put up a tatty casting from a no-mark foundry, what will it cost to do the job as the idiots envisage???

As I passed the roundabout today I noticed that there isn't in fact a Christmas tree this year. So why couldn't the clock have been left there after refurbishment? The wheel is much smaller than I envisaged but I'm sure that's nothing to do with Coupe's, who I believe cast it. They are far from no-marks, being established for over 400 years!

I think you need to open your eyes Bill.
There's more trees this year than ever - loads of shops have them up and the main tree was put at URC and the roundabout was lit up - you must have sunglasses on! You need to get behind your town rather than keep pulling it down. The work thats been done is a good thing - perhaps better to just keep moaning ? As a local shop keeper - i have to say its a good thing and much better for the town. |
