Leyland’s Portas Bid
Leyland town centre has until 30th March to submit a proposal to the Government to become a Mary Portas pilot scheme. The Government is backing ideas inspired by its shopping advisor, Mary Portas Queen of Shops, which are aimed at reviving 12 rundown high streets across the country. A £1 million fund would be shared among the schemes, with up to £100,000 for each. They could also benefit from advice direct from Mary Portas. Mary said she would be looking for towns to promote their cases in innovative ways. A few of the ideas for Leyland include:
•New town centre square for events & public use
•Creation of a town team of traders & businesses to drive forward Leyland’s future regeneration
•Expanding the market along Hough Lane
•Continue the improvements made in Hough Lane, Chapel Brow and Churchill Way
Everybody is coming together to promote Leyland and the battle cry has gone out to retailers, groups and organisations to attend a special Portas Town assembly next week. We need your help to succeed.
Support Leyland’s Portas bid and together we can make the town and our local businesses thrive. Come to the Town Assembly on 12 til 6pm on Tuesday 27th March at United Reformed Church we want as many businesses as possible to sign up to our Portas bid. This event is being covered by the Leyland Guardian. Learn about our Portas bid for Leyland & then sign our bid document to show you’re ‘Loyal2Leyland’.
Thanks
