Sporting chance for rising stars
#1
THE search is on for our rising sports stars with nominations now being accepted for South Ribble Borough Council’s annual sports awards.

The South Ribble Sports Awards recognise and reward people who go above and beyond the call of duty as well as high achievers in local sport. Organisers are inviting residents to nominate their favourite local sports stars.

There are a total of nine award categories, including:

Adult and Junior Teams of the Year
Coach of the Year.
Community Club of the Year
Young and Adult Volunteer of the Year
Rising Star
Lifetime Achievement Award

The winner of the Lewis Balycki Rising Star of the Year Award will be invited to lead the procession for the Leyland Festival on 7 July.

Visit the Lancashire Sports Partnership website at www.lancashiresport.org.uk for more information or to fill in an online nomination form.

You can download a pack or call 01772 625383 or email sports@southribble.gov.uk to request or submit a nomination form. They can also be submitted by hand or by post to: Sports Development, South Ribble Borough Council, Civic Centre, West Paddock, Leyland, PR25 1DH.

The closing date for nominations is Monday 30 April, and the awards will be presented at a glittering ceremony on 29 June. All the winners will be put forward as nominees in the county-wide sports awards scheme later this year.

Councillor Peter Mullineaux, Deputy Leader of South Ribble Borough Council, said: “We’ve invested substantial sums of money in our leisure facilities, which are really popular with residents. In fact, we’re really bucking the national trend in South Ribble because we saw a big rise in membership last year.

“The sports awards are a wonderful way to recognise achievement and give encouragement to people who are helping to keep the borough healthy and active. There are many people who selflessly give up their time and expertise to help local people enjoy and excel at sports in South Ribble, and these awards offer an opportunity to thank them for their contribution."
