Canine capers at Leyland Festival
FOUR-legged friends of all shapes and sizes are invited to a weekend of fun and canine capers at Paws in the Park dog show – part of this year’s Leyland Festival.

There will be plenty of things to see and do with your pooch, including dog grooming demos, micro-chipping, a fun agility course and a duck herding display.

Spectators will be able to watch displays from working dogs, including WaggaWuffins, Bowland and Pennine Mountain Rescue Dogs, Pets As Therapy and Lancashire Newfoundland Group, on Worden Park on Saturday 7 July and Sunday 8 July.

As well as an agility course with a prize for the fastest dog, there will be a musical sit competition – can your pet sit on command when the music stops?

Other highlights include a Doggie Olympics on Saturday and the chance to take home a rosette in one of our fun dog show classes on Sunday. Registration for both events starts at 11am, and all proceeds will go to local dog charities and rescue centres.

You and your pooch can also take part in a Bone and Spoon Race and a competition for the fastest dog to find a meaty dog bone hidden under a pile of straw.

There will also be a Heelwork to Music display by Sarah Brady and Sampson, plus plenty of dog friendly stalls and marquees offering homemade dog treats, pet accessories, free vet checks and microchipping.

Councillor Phil Smith, South Ribble Borough Council cabinet member with responsibility for regeneration, leisure and healthy communities, said: “Paws in the Park is a very popular part of the Leyland Festival and should provide some fun entertainment for all the family.”

Leyland Festival is being held at Worden Park on Saturday and Sunday, 7 and 8 July. This year’s festival will include a grand parade of floats and vintage vehicles, as well as the Leyland Bake-off competition, featuring a contest to find a Leyland Cake.

Owners should register their dogs from 11am in order to take part in the competition and events. All dogs must be kept under control and on a lead at all times and owners are responsible for cleaning up after their dog.
