Pupils return to Leyland St Marys
All 700-plus students of Leyland St Mary’s Catholic Technology College were reunited this week at the Royal Avenue site, following the massive blaze in September.

Two weeks after the fire, all pupils started term in empty high school premises in Ribbleton Hall Drive, Preston, and by the end of September, pupils from years seven, 10 and 11 returned to accommodation in Leyland which had escaped the inferno.

Now, everyone is back together in Leyland in time for Christmas.

There's an article in today's printed version of the Lancashire evening post saying that the refurbishment of the school has finally been completed at a cost of £5.7 millions. It was designed by Cassidy and Ashton and built by John turner construction. Included in the project is a rain water harvesting system and provision of work placements for students from Blackpool and Fylde College.

Good to see education back to normal with improved premises an asset to the area, one hopes it remains intact.......

I remember we had a long summer holiday in the 1970's when the last fire happened - I think the RSLA (Raising of the School leaving Age) Building was burned down at that time.

Hopefully the new and refurbished buildings will have sprinkler systems fitted, something missing previously.

I do remember the lack of a sprinkler system did make for a wonderfully long break that year
