They were young, if my memory serves me right we were at infants school (Fox Lane). I can remember their names but I will not embarass them! I would say this is probable one of my earliest memories.

I was born in Victoria Nursing Home Leyland.Does anyone know where that was as have tried in vain to trace it.
That was in 1935 way back in the dark ages. I remember getting off the bus at the cross and taking a short cut behind the church to Balshaws. Is Walmsley's old sweet shop still on the site? Enjoying the memories. My Dad worked at Leyland Motors and I can well remember the highlight of the year was the Christmas party.

Interesting to read how far Leylanders have spread their wings.I came to New Zealand over 40 years ago and visited my old stamping grounds Lostock Hall, Bamber Bridge and of course Leyland. It took me a while to find the old Leyland Motors Clock which stood at the end of Lostock Lane where I caught the bus to Balshaws, which looked just the same as half a century ago.
Not much seemed to have changed except of course the volume of traffic.I live in Auckland,City of Sails, and soon to host the Americas Cup. Auckland doesn't have any snow and I can't say I miss it but I do miss the English spring !!!! Hope to be back home again soon Cheers

It is interesting how many people have moved away. Looking at the friends web site, there is a large percentage on there that have made their homes elsewhere. Or perhaps those that have moved are more likely to join a web site like that.
They should join a web site like this one I think there is still a Leyland Motors clock on the main roundabout in the town. Martin In The Pink

They emigrated to NZ in 1952 on the old assisted passage scheme and they've only managed one trip home since then. I would love to go out there for a holiday, but it would take a Lottery win or a lot of saving as things stand at present!

Yes,New Zealand does have its extremes in climate and yes indeed Dunedin is very very cold in winter. The marked contrasts in New Zealand's scenery are among its attractions. The deep South is a beautiful part of the country and is home to a large albatross colony
The Scots settled there in the early days and Dunedin still has its share of Scottish accents and pipe bands. I sailed out in February 1959 with two very small daughters on the "Captain Cook" from Glasgow to join my husband who had flown out the previous year on a "Hastings" I still remember the workers on the Clyde as we approached the open sea calling out "I hope you folks are good sailors" It was a L-O-N-G five weeks. I'm still a Lancashire lass at heart though and felt immediately at home in my old surroundings. More later

Forgot to say that I believe that the clock on the roundabout is THE clock which was originally across from Woodcock Hall.My brother sent me a photo of it for old times sake.

I will be back in Leyland next week and plan to take lost of pictures. When I've got time I'll integrate some pictures into this website.

If you do visit Leyland with camera in tow try and take a picture of where the Victoria Nursing Home was as I'm beginning to think it didn't exist at all and I must be an alien.
Surely some other Leyland babes must have been born there! Cheers Martin.
