Hi All, First time on the forum.I was at wellfeild from1955 to 1959in form 3,8,13 and 17.I remember teachers Mr Slater,Birkenhead,Blackburn,Hough,Chester,Lowe,Farington(swine)Butterworth,Crank,Davies,Rostron,Hall,Skull.Mrs Penswick,Farington Dockray(had she a bad arm). The best thing about that school was the bell at 4pm Se you later, Alan Walker
My wife (Eileen Nixon back then) went to the Senior School for one year, then passed the 11+ and went to Balshaw's, starting there after the Easter break in the second form. She had to try and catch up the first two terms-worth of work in 2nd form and atruggled ever after.

Neither of us have fond memories of Balshaw's. It was an ordeal to get through, not in any way an enlightening education. I still hate the place at 70+.

Frank Damp (wife Eileen, nee Nixon)
Leyland resident 1941-1965, emigrated to the US in 1968,
retired to Anacortes, Washington State, USA in 1999.
Hello Alan, welcome to the forum.

Welcome Alan.
It's sad to hear you say Frank that you hated Balshaws. i loved the whole time and though there were some bad parts when you think of todays rules in education, back then we didn't know any different. I gained a lot from my 6 years at Balshaws and have fonest memories.
Balshaw's 1957-64 and loved it..
